History of Anarchism Presentation

At this year’s Porcfest, I did a presentation at the AltExpo on the history of anarchism. I was overly ambitious with what I could fit into an hour, and really ran through some things that I would have liked to explain more. Particularly a lot of the post-WWII history was not given the depth it could have used.

But it was a good introduction to a lot of the concepts and names that have shaped the history of anarchism. Audience members said they liked it and I think many of my readers will enjoy it too.

Much thanks to Bile for filming the presentation and posting it online so quickly.

Is there any plan to rip the audio and make this available as a podcast download?

There weren’t any plans to do that, but we could. Do you think it would be a good idea?

    Darian,

    My ipod eagerly awaits.

The one-hour talks are teasers, eh? Each one could be expanded to a whole-day workshop, which is in our long-term plans. We’ll get there, step-by-step.

We’ve shot another video of Darian from more straight on and that one had a lapel mic, I believe. This might be better audio quality for a podcast. We just have a new video volunteer though and he’s just learning some of the production stuff. I’ll put in a request for audio, too. Would anyone think it out of order for us to make it a paid download, for, like 99 cents. Just trying to make this movement sustainable for us event promoters.

Also, we’re hatching plans for AltExpo#7, which might be a very special, different kind of event. Just join the site: AltExpo.org to get email updates. We’re doing extensive improvements to the site, so you’ll see it evolve a lot over the next 60 days (from it’s crappy, draft-like present state). Darian’s and all the other talks, with video and audio (where available) will be accessible there, too. We’ve had about 110 oe-hour presentations so far – unfortunately all previous ones don’t have video :(

I’m actually thinking of just making a new audio recording to use as a podcast. This wouldn’t have distracting megaphones and it would give me the opportunity to include details that I didn’t have time for. I should have it done by next week if I decide to go that route.

Jack, I don’t think a paid download would be out of order. It might be better to fund it through advertising though, as people are used to getting things online without paying.

I think a podcast version would be great. Lots of people, including me, listen to podcasts while doing other tasks, it’s tough to sit at a computer and watch long videos of someone talking.
