Center For A Stateless Society April Fundraiser

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Before I was involved with Center for a Stateless Society, I supported their work and asked others to do the same. My reasoning was simple: Center For a Stateless Society is the only organization that consistently produces uncompromising and original market anarchist material, neither bowing for politicians, corporations, or dogma. Now that I’m a paid news analyst, I’m asking you to help keep us at it. All the writers put a lot into our work, the organizational staff tirelessly works toward liberty, and we often go above and beyond our stated responsibilities. If you’re unfamiliar with the Center, check us out at c4ss.org. If you think this is a project worth supporting, please click the widget below to throw in some cash.

If you don’t have the funds right now, there are other ways to help the Center. You could spread our articles through Facebook, Twitter, and email. You could pass along our work in print form by a) printing the C4SS pamphlets at LibertyActivism.info and Invisible Molotov, b) making your own pamphlets out of articles you like and sending them to either site, or c) making good old flyers or broadsides by copy-pasting our works into a word processor then printing them.

And don’t hesitate to give us feedback in any of the comment threads or by email. We want to help you make a free world.

Against Borders Pamphlet

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

A new pamphlet, Against Borders, has been posted on libertyactivism.info. It includes a 1-page individualist anarchist view on state borders, my Center for a Stateless Society commentary Escalating the War on Freedom, a New Jersey Alliance of the Libertarian Left statement, and a Nation article by Jacqueline Stevens. Download, print, fold, staple, subvert!

Change From the Bottom Up, Taking Orders From the Top

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

My latest Center for a Stateless Society Column is online. In Obama: Change From the Bottom Up, Taking Orders From the Top, I discuss the Obama administration’s method of governance in light of some of the president’s recent comments, and describe the merits of building liberty in opposition to the system.

So it might be surprising to read that Obama told the summit attendees, “Real change comes from the bottom up, and that is why we are here.” This is from the highest-ranking official of the most powerful empire the world has ever seen, speaking to business “delegates” in the capital of the most powerful empire the world has ever seen.

Escalating the War on Freedom

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

I posted a new Center For a Stateless Society commentary today: Escalating the War on Freedom. It describes how a bill recently passed by the Arizona state senate is an example of government further restricting freedom to address a problem caused by previous government restrictions.

Asheville Anarchy

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

One of the people I had the pleasure of meeting at the New York Anarchist Book Fair was Scott from Firestorm Cafe and Books in Asheville, NC. It’s an anarchist space with a heavy mutualist influence.

There’s also a growing Local Exchange Trading System in Asheville.

I hope Firestorm and Asheville LETS become successful contributors to a consensual community, and I hope they help inspire folks elsewhere to move forward making liberty.

The Big Anarchist Survey

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

I hope lots of anarchists fill out The Big Anarchist Survey. It won’t take long, and the survey writers provided space to write in answers and comment on the survey itself.

ALL At NYC Anarchist Book Fair

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Alliance of the Libertarian Left folks from New Jersey, New York, and New Hampshire converged at the 2010 NYC Anarchist Book Fair. This is the first time ALL had a table at the event.

We had a good mix of cheap and free literature:

The table got more organized as the day went on. Unfortunately we had less than half the display space we’re used to, so it took some work to keep a good representation of literature on the table.

Kevin Carson’s The Iron Fist Behind the Invisible Hand was a popular giveaway. We also gave out about 40 assorted Center For a Stateless Society pamphlets. Our free literature also included copies of ALLiance Journal, the Market Anarchy zine series, and New Libertarian Manifesto. Much of this can be downloaded at LibertyActivism.info.

There was also a great selection of titles from Corvus Editions, including some brand new booklets. They sold well. We also sold the fiction books Bring a Gun to School Day and The Walton Street Tycoons, and prints of An Agorist Primer and Agorist Class Theory. We had ALL buttons from Vegas ALL and shirts by Bosco.

This fair would not be a money-making trip for me, however. I ended up “investing” in lots of books and zines, plus some cool posters.

The fair provided a great opportunity to meet and talk to lots of folks from across the anarchist and radical spectrum. The space was packed with active and inquisitive people. I look forward to doing more anarchy in the New York metro area.

Much thanks to James from Tulsa ALL for contributing towards table costs, and thanks to everyone who came and made the experience awesome!

New Center For A Stateless Society Articles

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Last week I posted a new feature at Center for a Stateless Society: Build Liberty From the Ground Up. I turned the text into a pamphlet, which can be downloaded from LibertyActivism.info.

Speaking of Center for a Stateless Society pamphlets, they were popular handouts at the New York Anarchist Book Fair last weekend. I’ll post more about the fair tomorrow, but be assured that it was a great time.

Today I posted a new C4SS commentary, Free Space, which kind of has a pun for a title. Because I didn’t post a news commentary last week, I’ll post another commentary either tomorrow or Wednesday. I apologize to C4SS supporters for not meeting my pledge to post a weekly commentary. But I do think this fumble is mitigated by the fact that last week I not only posted my monthly feature, but put in the extra work to make it into a pamphlet and gave out C4SS literature at the NYC Anarchist Book Fair.

A Few Observations

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I see the value in discussing and refining your views on everything. But what the hell is the point of drawing angry divisions over Lockean standards versus occupancy-and-use possession? In a free society, very few people would take someone seriously if he circled a gigantic uninhabited area of land on a map and said “This is all mine!” And very few people would “occupy and use” your vegetable garden if you neglected it for a week.

If your first response to a discussion about different standards of ownership is to talk about shooting people who disagree with you, you are being a douchebag and an impediment to achieving a free society. And if you actually think that someone would only question your philosophical statements because they want to own you as property, you really need to un-dogma yourself as quickly as possible.

Lastly, I admire much of what Ron Paul and his supporters have done, but I’m really tired of Justin Raimondo acting like anyone who isn’t “following the Paulian star” is really an elitist who wants the government to kill more people. That was old in 2008, and it’s just obnoxious now.
