Left Libertarian Propaganda Strategy

Friday, September 4th, 2009

That’s right, I said propaganda. If we want to see our ideas realized in the world, we need to propagate them in memorable form in every media available. Neglecting to do so allows, almost requires, others to define our position.

To this end, I wrote “The Strategy of Propaganda” for ALLiance: A Journal of Theory and Strategy. Chris Lempa, publisher of ALLiance, just posted the essay for online viewing at his blog. Thought I’d pass the word along.

The archive of my debut patriotradio.com show is now online!

Thinking Liberty 9-02-2009

The show starts about 8 minutes into the recording.

The producer asked what kind of music I liked, and I said “I like rock.” Then he asked “How about Rocky?” I said go for it.

I was a little uneasy about doing radio for a while, because when I talk I generally say what I’m currently thinking instead of the more refined and complete thoughts that I write down. So I don’t always hit things the best way. But I think a broadcast of discussing liberty is useful, so I’m on it. From now on I’ll probably have a couple of co-hosts and plan guest appearances so a more dynamic conversation will be had.

I feel like I dropped the ball on the “death panels all the way down” discussion and gave less mention to the military-empire-security-state than I should have. I also didn’t address anarchist violence in late 19th to early 20th century America when I discussed violent anarchism in history. Maybe next time.

Internet Radio

On Sunday I had the pleasure of a guest appearance on Patriot Radio’s Jay and Zay show. The archive is now available. It looks like the first few minutes are missing, but you can get a good idea what the show was about.

I spoke mostly about the Alliance of the Libertarian Left and its relation to American libertarian movements in general. I did talk a little about my work, but nothing that can’t be found by looking through darianworden.com.

I realize that I could have explained libertarian socialism better than I did, and that I should have given more mention to the ALL’s socially egalitarian tendencies. But all in all I’m happy about it.

This might spin into my own patriotradio.com show. Stay tuned.

And lest anybody question my association with patriotism, let me say this: I know American history is complex and full of authoritarianism, but I’m not about to let anyone run me out of here.
