By the way, I hope you didn't take me linking to your blog post as a personal attack. I just wanted something online that documented Paul's support for the guy.

The ICE detention system makes it difficult even to visit imprisoned immigrants, and many people they know might also face ICE attacks. So I wouldn't say it's easier to help jailed immigrants. The NJ Civil Rights Defense Committee does this kind of thing and immigrant detainees appear to be in worse conditions than I'd suspect most tax resisters or firearms law violators would be.

I think a governor who wants to use local police to combat what he says is a growing problem has the potential to do great harm. That of course doesn't mean that the other guys are better, but I thought it was important to point out the consequences of supporting Lonegan.

While I agree this guy is wrong on the policies you point out I believe you're wrong in attempting to quantify the possible harm. I'd argue it's easier to fight for immigrants then it is against gun laws and property taxes. I'd suspect you can rally a lot more people to the aid of a jailed immigrant than a jailed tax protester or someone who was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm.

But that's assuming that's the trade off. Which it wouldn't be no matter who wins.
