Metalness
I’m very excited that two folky metal tours will be rampaging in my area this spring.
First it’s Pagan Knights 2009 featuring Tyr, Alestorm, and Suidakra.
Tyr – Regin Smidur
Then it’s Paganfest 2. I’m very excited to see Korpiklaani for the first time, and happy that Eluveite will be back.
Eluveite – Inis Mona

You know, in this newfangled geopolitical order, with all its fearful emphasis on Islamic fundamentalists and bomb-throwing anarchists, it’s nice to see that the civilizations of the world can still make time for an old fashioned barbarian invasion.
Here’s hoping the Mongols take out China and Russia.

I want to be an anarcho-barbarian. Plunder the oppressors, encourage the women to empower themselves, then burn stuff. And have mighty feasts.

Yeah, mighty feasts of dumpster-dived vegan food. With mead, if honey counts as vegan.
Your description reminds me of something Ken Macleod once wrote about viking Iceland in his blog.
“There are a lot of court scenes in ‘Njal’s Saga’. That’s what the Icelanders did, by the way. Every so often they’d kill each other and then they’d sue each other. There’s one scene where they’re about to start killing each other in court, until somebody – obviously an experienced lawyer – points that it’s going to be far too expensive, and everyone backs down. About two thirds of the way through the book the whole of Iceland converts to Christianity. It slowly dawns on them that it’s OK to forgive people. You don’t need to keep up all this vengeance business. Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord. You can just see them thinking, ‘Christ, what a relief.’”
